About me & this blog

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Thanks for stopping by! My name is John Oliver. I’m a Christian (of the Reformed stripe), husband (to one wonderful woman, since 1987), a father (of four amazing adult children), and grandfather (of seven incredible kids). I’m also a musician (with mediocre competence on about half a dozen instruments). I pay the bills as a National Technical Trainer for an appliance manufacturer. And most recently, I’m a fledgling writer, which is why you’re reading this.

The goal of this blog is to draw my reader’s attention to the manifold witness of God’s creation. I am convinced that the stuff of reality “pours forth knowledge” of our Creator day by day. We take too much for granted. I would love nothing more than for my readers to gain a heightened awareness of the benefits of “faithful observation.” By that, I mean, looking at the things that are made with a mind informed by the word of God, expecting to find an echo in those seemingly mute objects. If you leave here not being able to look at the things around you in the same way and feel that your world is a little more inhabited by your God than you thought before, I have accomplished my task.

I’d love to interact with you about these things, too! Feel free to contact me! Grace to you!

John

    Hey John,
I just came about your marvellous “He’s alive” on youtube. It’s one of the best in web around – and perfect for the Easter time.

Do you have sheet music for this song, especially of the finger-picking? Could you make it available for me? pdf? If you wish I could donate to your blog for it.

    Blessings from Nuremberg,
    Peter

  4. Peter,
That was very kind of you. I don’t have sheet music for it – I learned it many years ago. You can easily find it on the web, though. As for the picking, it’s a basic Travis-style picking. There are also many tutorial videos for that on YouTube. Thanks for the encouragement! Grace to you!
